Position Summary: Destination Sales Manager

Visit Alexandria seeks a creative and energetic Destination Sales Manager with a proven track record  for a unique sales and marketing opportunity. Join a dynamic sales team to manage meeting sales for assigned geographic market segment and to assist the Sr. VP of Sales in cultivating the international travel trade.  The ideal candidate will be a marketing-minded, motivated self-starter, looking beyond traditional sales strategies to engage customers and secure new business in a rapidly changing marketplace.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include the following, but are not limited to)
•  Develop and follow an effective direct sales plan to optimize existing market segment accounts and cultivate new business to include account management, prospecting, site inspections, tradeshows, sales calls, industry networking (committee participation), fam trips and signature events  

• Incorporate targeted sales and marketing communications, special promotions and social media strategies to achieve individual and departmental goals

•   Develop strong product knowledge providing destination expertise to customers and partners; strengthen professional relationships with Visit Alexandria members and tourism partners to increase business, leverage budgets and gain exposure

 •  Assist Sr. V.P. Sales in securing F.I.T. and group business from international tour operators and domestic receptive operators

•   Adhere to individual and team performance guidelines and production goals; responsible for submission of regular sales activity reports and quarterly action plans

•   Stay on top of industry best practices, trends, standards and benchmarks and adjusts strategies accordingly; assist in identifying trends in assigned market(s) and generating supporting website content

•   Be extraordinary in all activities and willing to go beyond to stand out among the competition

Desired Skills & Experience
 •   B.S. degree with a minimum of three years hospitality or tourism sales experience, international sales experience a plus
.•   Active participation in planner organizations such as MPI, PCMA, SGMP, etc.  
 •   Proven ability to achieve/exceed sales goals
 •   Superb communication skills (oral, written and technical)
 •   Familiarization with social media platforms as sales tools
 •   Strong relationship building skills to collaborate with partners, customers and team members  
 •   Excellent account and project management skills
 •   Enjoys a fast pace environments and adapts easily to change  
 •   Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Customer Relationship Management software (preferred)
 •   Interested in career advancement in the destination marketing industry
 •   Passion for Alexandria and tourism

Position Summary: Customer Relationship Marketing & Communications Coordinator

The purpose of this position is twofold:

  1. To improve the targeting of Visit Alexandria’s marketing through up-to-date Customer Relationship Marketing , working closely with members and staff to obtain, write, curate, organize and optimize member content within the CRM database.
  2. To support Membership and Sales with management and content of communications to members and meeting planners

Visit Alexandria seeks a Customer Relationship Marketing & Communications Coordinator to be part of a dynamic team tasked with driving visitation to Alexandria through engaging and useful digital content. The candidate will work to ensure that content related to our 300+ member businesses is current, relevant, and optimally presented to prospective visitors. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator and synthesizer with an aptitude for communications, sales and database management.  He/she will embrace Visit Alexandria’s creative, entrepreneurial, consumer- and results-driven culture.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include the following, but are not limited to)

  • Work with existing member businesses to maximize their participation in Visit Alexandria programs and increase effectiveness of their listings within the Customer Relationship Marketing (CRM) database (40%)
  • Provide communications and logistical support to Meeting Sales including: blog, copy, content development and special project support (25%)
  • Write monthly member newsletter with guidance and input from all department heads (10%)
  • Editor of the Official Alexandria Menu Book (10%)
  • Support Member & Visitor Services Director in orienting new members to benefits, website, member portal, meetings/group sales, and seasonal promotions and help them set up their listings in the CRM (10%)
  • Attend weekly content team meetings to ensure member related content is included and consistent with the organization’s broader Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategy (5%)

 

Qualifications

  • Organized, systematic thinker with high personal standards and attention-to-detail
  • Strong writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills—ability to relate to and teach external and internal stakeholders with widely varying digital skills
  • Team orientated
  • Sense of humor (essential in any healthy office environment!)
  • Bachelors degree in marketing, information science, communications or relevant field
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Enthusiasm and the ability to thrive in an atmosphere of constant change
  • Tourism/hospitality/service experience a plus
