ACVA Receives PMPI Marketplace Excellence Award

Robin Roane PMPI Award

Alexandria, VA - The Alexandria Convention & Visitors Association received the 2011-2012 Marketplace Excellence Award from the Potomac Chapter of Meeting Professionals International (PMPI). The Potomac Chapter is the third largest MPI chapter worldwide. The Marketplace Excellence Award recognizes a supplier member who has provided the chapter with effective and creative opportunities at events by consistently contributing throughout the chapter year.

ACVA's Senior Sales Manager Robin Roane accepted the award on June 18, 2012, during the PMPI Annual Meeting & Awards Reception, Evening of the Stars. The award was granted to ACVA largely due to Roane's efforts. Roane acted as co-chair of PMPI's Career Development Committee for the 2011/2012 year. ACVA was the sole sponsor for the PMPI 2012 Spring Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) Exam Study Course, providing an in-kind donation worth nearly $12,000 for the 11 session program. ACVA's contribution included board room accommodations, audio visual, food and beverage for registered attendees. Roane coordinated the effort and having received her CMP was an additional source of support. ACVA was also a Silver Sponsor for PMPI's Annual Monster Bash in October 2011 and provided congratulatory gift bags for 100 meeting planners at the January 2012 CMP Exam which took place at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center.

Roane has been a member of MPI for 15 years and has been an active member of PMPI for two years. ACVA's Vice President of Sales Lorraine Lloyd has a long history with MPI as well, as a member for over 25 years. ACVA regularly sponsors PMPI events and has actively supported PMPI since ACVA's charter in 1998.

"We are both proud and pleased to receive this prestigious award," said Lloyd. "Connecting with meeting planners on a personal level is vital to the success of ACVA's group sales efforts and Robin (Roane) and our entire team continually strive to secure opportunities to attract lucrative meetings business to our historic city."

In February 2012, the ACVA sales team announced a watershed achievement of booking $1 million of business in one month. The bookings of the ACVA sales team supports Alexandria businesses and generate tax revenue for the City.
