ACVA Selects aRes Travel to Provide Website Booking Engine

Industry Leader to Partner with ACVA on Redesigned VisitAlexandriaVA.com

Alexandria, VA - The Alexandria Convention & Visitors Association (ACVA) announced it has selected industry-leader aRes Travel Inc. to provide the technology for online hotel reservations on the re-launched VisitAlexandriaVA.com. aRes will provide the hotel booking engine and attraction ticketing technology for the site when it debuts at the third annual Alexandria Tourism Marketing Summit on May 10, 2012.

aRes provides technology and support systems for some of the most successful destination-marketing organizations in North America, including those representing the State of California, the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau, San Francisco Travel, the Greater Houston Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau.

With this technology, VisitAlexandriaVA.com's booking engine will for the first time offer ticketing for attractions and activities. ACVA has members who are already a part of the aRes ticketing inventory. These include George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate, Museum & Gardens; Entertainment Cruises; the Newseum, and Bike and Roll.

"VisitAlexandriaVA.com was designed from the beginning to provide complete trip-planning capabilities in one place and partnering with aRes takes this to the next level," said Stephanie Pace Brown, president & CEO of ACVA. "The ticketing technology will give Alexandria attractions greater marketing exposure while providing convenience and efficiency for our visitors."

VisitAlexandriaVA.com is on track to attract one million visits this year with ACVA-placed advertising reaching 100 million households.

aRes was selected for its proprietary booking engine, reservation call center and dynamic packaging capabilities. The booking engine will be seamlessly integrated into VisitAlexandriaVA.com. The company, which was founded in 1995 and is based in San Diego, works to forge relationships with suppliers and offers a single point of sale for multiple travel products, increasing marketing exposure and expanding product offerings. Features and benefits of the aRes Travel Network include live customer service, secure shopping cart capabilities, search engine friendly URL's, direct access to the inventory of major hotel chains and the Global Distribution System (GDS).

As the City's tourism marketing organization, ACVA is tasked with increasing revenues and promoting the City of Alexandria and its assets. With 3.3 million visitors annually, visitor spending contributes both to the economic health of the City and quality of life for its residents. $657 million in annual visitor spending generates $22.4 million in City taxes, and tourism directly supports nearly 6,000 jobs in Alexandria.
