This summer, food trucks will roll into the West End for Alexandria's first-ever Food Truck Rodeo, in partnership with the DC Food Truck Association. Visitors can look forward to favorite trucks like the popular Red Hook Lobster truck, sips from local Port City Brewing Co. as well as non-food vendors and children's activities.

To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Fort Stevens-the only battle fought in the Defenses of Washington-Fort Ward Museum & Historic Site will host a Civil War Reenactment Weekend, featuring an interpretation of the historic battle, highlights of Union and Confederate camps, military and civilian living history activities and a President Lincoln interpreter.

Alexandria Waterfront

After nearly a year of special activities, the celebration of Alexandria's involvement in the War of 1812 closes with a grand signature event. At this waterfront festival, visitors are invited to delight in interactive historical exhibits, boating activities and food trucks. To restore honor after Alexandria's 1814 surrender to British troops, Alexandria has challenged the British Embassy to a good-spirited rematch, featuring a tug-of-war, cricket match and yacht race taking place during the festival weekend.

The Potomac Riverboat Company offers baseball enthusiasts the chance to avoid the crowds and take a leisurely cruise from Old Town Alexandria to Nationals Park along the scenic Potomac River. Online-ticket purchases include free parking. Boats returning to Alexandria depart 20 minutes after final pitch. Boat operates for 80% of Nationals games - check website for specific available dates.

Beginning in May, members of the Old Town Boutique District will extend boutique hours each Thursday, accompanied by special block parties with in-store events emphasizing different sections of King Street, from 6-8 p.m. every Thursday from May 8-June 5, 2014. Boutiques will continue to remain open until 8 p.m. throughout July. Check website for specific hours and block party locations.
