Used as a Union Hospital, Carlyle House’s Civil War history features many fascinating figures, including poet Walt Whitman, Confederate spy Frank Stringfellow, and Sarah Emma Edmonds, who disguised herself as a Union soldier. The exhibit will take a close look at these and other figures. Objects on display will include Frank Stringfellow’s army field case, an original edition of Sarah Emma Edmonds’ memoirs, Civil War syringes and medical equipment and more.
