Robert E. Lee’s father purchased the lot where this historic home sits and sold it to his cousin who built the house in 1785. Between 1785 and 1903, it was home to 37 Lee family members. This period of residency was interrupted during the Civil War when the Union seized it for use as a hospital. Restored to its early Victorian elegance, the house is interpreted as a Lee family home of the 1850-1870 period.
