Woodlawn Bio.- George Washington gave the estate to his adopted granddaughter and his nephew as a wedding gift. Dr. William Thornton, architect of the U.S. Capitol, was then commissioned to design the mansion.
Pope-Leighey House Bio.- Frank Lloyd Wright designed the Pope-Leighey House originally in 1940 in Falls Church, VA. The house was moved from it's original location in mid 1960's to it's current location, adjacent to Woodlawn. One of only a few of Frank Lloyd Wright's Usonian homes open to the public on the East Coast.
Houses are open for guided tours on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays, from 12pm-4pm. Tours of Woodlawn leave on the top of every hour, and tours of the Pope-Leighey House leave at the top of every hour and on the half hour. Sites are closed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, as well as from December 9 - February 28. Please check our website for the most up-to-date ticket and tour information.
Both sites are owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
