About IPW

Did you know that the U.S. Travel Association's annual IPW conference is the travel industry's premier international marketplace and the largest generator of travel to the U.S.? From June 3-7, 2017, Washington, D.C. will host IPW for the first time. The event will bring 1,500 international travel buyers, 4,500 suppliers, and 500 international & domestic media. Within three years, IPW is expected to bring $1 million additional new international visitors and $1.7 billion in additional spending to our region.

Visit Alexandria has been actively working with Destination DC and the Capital Region USA to ensure that delegates are aware of our proximity to DC and exposed to all Alexandria has to offer international visitors. We’ve created dedicated web content for the international market and IPW delegates. Please take a look.

How can you participate and benefit?

Hotels: Showcase Your Property Pre and Post – We will be soliciting targeted qualified operators with known business for the Capital Region to spend a few days prior to the show or directly after the event.  We hope to offer an incentive of special discounts at Alexandria’s leading hotels for their stay. This will be promoted through email communications, personal solicitations as well as IPW online marketing opportunities.  We are looking for a commitment of 10 – 50% off of your best available rate, of course, based on availability. No room block is required and rate will be confirmed at the time the reservation is made.  All requests will be vetted through Visit Alexandria unless you specify otherwise. Participating hotels will be showcased on our website and in various marketing communications. Official Sight Seeing Tour –  This tour will be offered on Sunday, June 4 to all attendees and will showcase Alexandria’s history and culinary attributes. More information to follow.

Official Prefam (May 31 – Jun 2) – Visit Alexandria is working with the Northern Virginia Visitors Consortium (NVVC) on a two and a half-day itinerary to showcase the region to 20 -25 qualified operators. Alexandria will host and afternoon, evening and overnight on Thursday June 1 and will be reaching out to members to participate.  

Volunteers throughout the event – Volunteer opportunities will be available through Destination DC for official events and are only open to Destination DC members. Visit Alexandria and NVVC will reaching out for volunteers at various locations in Virginia .  Please watch for additional information to follow.

Marketing Opportunities – IPW Online Market Place is complimentary tool for delegates that allows buyers and suppliers to connect and follow one another, view, share and download brochures, rates, press releases and images in advance, during and after IPW. The Daily Summary email feature prompts buyers to view the latest material to prepare for their appointments and learn more about travel products offered in the United States and provide them both the tools and the assets, to sell and promote your destination, attraction or service well after the conclusion of each IPW event. Visit Alexandria will develop a content plan that will be pushed out via email and posted on the Online Marketplace (TravTrade) and the Online Press Room and will be reaching out to you for promotions, packages and general content.

Participation at the show -  Visit Alexandria will be again exhibiting with the Capital Region USA in the Virginia Tourism Corporation’s (VTC) booth. Last year’s show brought over 175 operators and media to our booth. VTC would love for Alexandria to have a strong presence.  If you are interested in joining the booth, registration fee  is $3,000.  This would include registration, one delegate badge, highlighted in the media marketplace, and appointment logistics and leads.  The participation fee excludes travel and lodging. Please contact Jane Lammay at the Virginia Tourism Corporation to register at jlammay@virginia.org
