American music played by jazz ensembles and orchestras performing in a variety of jazz styles. Lineup: 1 p.m. - The Commodores | The Commodores are a specialty unit of the United States Navy Band in Washington, D. C., and features 18 of the Navy's top jazz and "big band" musicians. 2 p.m. - Al Williams | Al is an Alexandria favorite and 4-time WAMMIE Award winner, including Best Jazz Instrumentalist. Al has appeared at many jazz festivals around the world. 3 p.m. - Daniel Ori | Daniel is a prominent young voice in the New York contemporary Jazz scene, and has performed worldwide in venues and festivals. Daniel's music has been described as fresh, communicative, lyrical and rhythmic modern jazz with Middle Eastern, Latin and African influences. 4 p.m. - Emy Tseng |Emy sings with some of DC's best jazz and Brazilian musicians and performs throughout the DC area and is noted for her Brazilian sound and feel. 5 p.m. - Bob Gibson Big Band | The Bob Gibson Big Band, composed of various area musicians, including members of Armed Forces Service ensembles, performs a variety of swing and big band pieces in the 40's style that may just make the audience get up and dance. Waterfront Park features grass seating, and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Food, such as barbeque, fried chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, snow cones and funnel cake are available for purchase, but everyone is welcome to pack a picnic lunch or dinner. Grilling and alcoholic beverages are not permitted. Please be mindful of your neighbors and refrain from smoking at this event, and pets should be left at home. Experience a behind-the-scenes look at the Washingtons’ kitchen through the new exhibition, Hoecakes & Hospitality: Cooking with Martha Washington. On display inside the Donald W. Reynolds Museum, this temporary exhibition celebrates food at Mount Vernon and Martha Washington’s role as early America’s premier hostess. Following food from the Estate’s field to kitchen to table, visitors will see recipes and cookbooks that Martha treasured, pots that simmered in her kitchen, and fine table-wares that made Mount Vernon’s dining room fit for a president. For the first time ever, visitors to the Museum will experience scents as they explore the exhibition - smelling cinnamon, coffee, herbs and warm bread. Open through Summer 2013.

The Old town theater was originally built in 1914 and restored in 2012. We offer a variety of entertainment for all ages. The Vaudeville Matinee show runs from noon until three and you may arrive anytime and stay for as long as you like. The show runs 60 minutes and repeats itself so it does not matter what time you arrive you will enjoy a full show. This is perfect for babysitters and new mommies who want to entertain the children.
