Alexandria, VA (April 8, 2009) - The Alexandria Convention and Visitors Association (ACVA) announces two new locations to load and unload passengers, and a list of guidelines aimed to assist in planning motorcoach visits to the city. The additional locations to load and unload passengers bring the total to five.

As the spring and summer travel season arrives, Alexandria, Virginia, once again welcomes tour groups traveling by motorcoach to take advantage of this historic city, its proximity to Washington, D.C., and the group-friendly accommodations, attractions, shops and restaurants. To ensure motorcoach groups are easily able to get in and around the city, the ACVA has posted a complete list of guidelines, rules and regulations at

   • Loading and Unloading
      o New locations:
         --100 block of North Washington Street (5 spaces) between Cameron and King streets, west            side, south bound EXCEPT 4-6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
         --100 block of South Washington Street (1 space) between Prince and King Streets, east side,             northbound EXCEPT 7-9 a.m. Monday through Friday. Do not block the DASH/MetroBus Stop.
      o Idling longer than 15 minutes is prohibited. Additionally, motorcoaches parked in designated          spots must turn off their motors when parked. Violators are subject to a $50 fine.
      o Motorcoaches should not double-park or otherwise obstruct traffic when stopping to load or unload          passengers. The penalty is a $200 fine.

   • Parking
      o Short-term parking (maximum three hours) is available on a first-come, first-served basis at the          following locations:
         --Waterfront/Robinson Terminal: 500 block of North Union Street (four spaces) between                           Oronocco and Pendleton streets, east side, northbound; 3-hour parking on a first-come,             first-served basis.
         --North Old Town: 900 block of North St. Aspah Street (two spaces), west side, southbound;             3-hour parking on a first-come, first-served basis.
      o Extended parking (three or more hours) and overnight parking is available at the George          Washington Masonic Memorial for a nominal fee. Request a parking permit online at or contact Renee Cardone at          or (800) 388-9119.
      o Tour and sight-seeing buses may only park in designated parking spaces. The penalty is a $100          fine.
