ALEXANDRIA, VA (November 6,  2007) - With over $180 million being invested in new hotel properties and upgrades of existing properties, Alexandria's hospitality and meetings industry has positioned itself to accommodate larger meetings offering sophisticated technologies and luxury amenities.

The new Four-Star, Four Diamond Westin Alexandria will open on November 7, offering 319 guest rooms & suites and 20,000 square feet of function space, including the largest ballroom in Old Town Alexandria. The Westin can host large events of up to 700 guests, or smaller, more intimate gatherings and corporate meetings. The hotel's focus on renewal and rejuvenation complement a busy day of corporate meetings and presentations. The Westin is located in the burgeoning, vibrant Carlyle area of Old Town Alexandria, close to the campus of the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.

Kimpton Hotels will open the Four-Star Hotel Monaco, Alexandria in late January, 2008. Kimpton's reputation for service, its signature, highly stylish guestrooms and suites and its location on King Street in the heart of Old Town Alexandria will draw not only a strong, loyal clientele base, but new corporate meeting clients from major markets. Kimpton has invested over $22 million to transform the former Holiday Inn into a 241-room property offering 8,000 square feet of meeting space.

Kimpton has also assumed management of Alexandria's Four-Star Morrison House, enhancing the traditionally Federal property by remodeling with color, ambiance, and sophistication.

The newly reflagged Crowne Plaza Old Town Alexandria is undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation to guestrooms, restaurants, meeting space and public areas which will be completed by year-end. The Crowne Plaza is situated on the Potomac River with expansive views of the nation's Capital.

All properties will offer chef-driven restaurants - in a city that is gaining in reputation for its culinary sophistication. Recently, The New York Times spotlighted Alexandria in a major Sunday travel story, "A Town Takes Its Place at the Culinary Table." The Times featured nationally award-winning chefs Cathal Armstrong (Restaurant Eve, The Majestic, Eamonn's), Morou Ouattara (Restaurant Farrah Oliva), Frank Morales (Rustico), and  Anthony Chittum (Vermilion), who have been drawn to this historic town across the Potomac River from Washington, DC for the opportunity to create "exactly what (they) want."

Alexandria will soon have its own 1930's-era dining experience, The Carlyle Club, opening in early November and located conveniently between two Metro stops in the trendy Carlyle area of Old Town Alexandria. The club will offer elegant dining and big band entertainment in a sophisticated setting.

Old Town Alexandria's romantic ambiance and aura of historic significance combined with its urban sophistication set Alexandria apart. Many of its historic buildings and attractions offer special-event venues unmatched in other meeting destinations. In this city, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, parties and dinners can be staged in the same inns and historic homes where George Washington celebrated his birthday, and founding fathers planned pre-Revolutionary War strategies.  This same setting also offers trendy boutiques, outdoor dining, art galleries, day spas and more.

The staff of the Alexandria Convention & Visitors Association, immersed daily in this culture, are adept in finding the right venue for each meeting and event objective, working  hand -in-hand with the professional staffs in this one-of-a-kind meeting location. Vice President of Sales Lorraine Lloyd and her staff pride themselves on knowing their City in every way. Meeting planners can contact Sales staff here.

Alexandria's convenient location so close to Washington, DC and with access to three major airports within an hour's drive has already made it an ideal destination for so many meeting requirements-with these exciting, new amenities now being offered, the perfect destination is only a click away.
