CANCELLED – Waterskiing Santa, First Night Alexandria Activities but Fireworks Still Happening

Alexandria, VA - As of December 23, 2021, three holiday events are cancelled in Alexandria, VA based on the recommendations of the Alexandria Health Department and agreement by the City of Alexandria. The New Year’s Eve fireworks finale of First Night Alexandria is expected to proceed.

Waterskiing Santa - CANCELLED 
Scheduled for December 24, 2021, at 1 p.m.
Alexandria’s Waterfront

The show by Waterskiing Santa and his crew scheduled for December 24 at 1 p.m. at Waterfront Park in the City of Alexandria is cancelled due to the potential for large crowds in a central location during the current COVID-19 case surge.

Olde Year’s Day at Torpedo Factory Art Center - CANCELLED
Scheduled for December 31, 2021, from 1 to 5 p.m.

After consultation with the Alexandria Health Department, the Torpedo Factory Art Center’s Olde Year’s Day event is cancelled due to the rise in cases for COVID-19.

Scheduled for December 31, 2021, from 12 p.m. to midnight
Various locations throughout Old Town Alexandria, VA

First Night Alexandria is committed to making the health and safety of our community a top priority. All shows and activities as part of the New Year’s Eve Festival of Music & More are cancelled to prevent further spread of COVID-19. This follows the Alexandria Health Department’s recommendation, and the City of Alexandria’s agreement, to cancel the activities that encourage crowds to gather in a central location, while Alexandria is experiencing its highest number of COVID-19 cases to date. This includes live music performances throughout the day, the Market Square Kickoff, Battle of the Buskers and the Countdown to 2022 Street Party.

If you purchased tickets, your full refund is being processed, including ticket price and processing fees, and you can expect to receive a refund within 5 to 7 business days, per Eventbrite procedures. The fireworks over the Potomac River are still scheduled to occur as planned at midnight and will last for approximately 10 minutes. Visitors are encouraged to spread out among the viewing areas listed below, and wear a mask, regardless of vaccination status, if social distancing cannot be maintained.
