Visit Alexandria Launches Virtual Reality Experience of the City Immersive “Visit Alexandria 360” Tour to Inspire Visitors

Alexandria, VA–Visitors can now get an immersive view of Alexandria through Visit Alexandria 360, a new virtual reality tour at The experience, which can be enjoyed on a phone, tablet, computer or a VR headset using the Visit Alexandria 360 app, showcases more than 20 local attractions and allows users to step onto historic Captain’s Row, bike the Mount Vernon Trail, dine on King Street, take in the stunning waterfront vista at George Washington’s Mount Vernon, enjoy a boat cruise into D.C. and explore historic sites such as the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum. 

“360 and VR are increasingly what travelers are thirsting for,” said Patricia Washington, president and CEO of Visit Alexandria. “According to a 2017 study by Destination Analysts, more than half of travelers surveyed said they would be interested in using VR for travel inspiration. We are proud to be among the early adopters at the forefront of this new trend.”

Visit Alexandria 360, which was funded in part through Virginia Tourism Corporation’s Marketing Leverage Program grant, features an introductory two-minute video and 22 narrated panoramic photos of historic sites and attractions. The experience is best enjoyed with a virtual reality headset, but viewers can also take in the expansive views on their phones or computer. Visitors already in Alexandria can stop by the virtual reality station at the Alexandria Visitor Center located at 221 King Street to sample experiences such as biking through Wilkes Street Tunnel or taking in the Potomac River waterfront views at Jones Point Park.
