While touring the Mount Vernon Mansion, stop at the bedchamber known to the Washingtons in the 1790s as the "Blue Room." The room reopens today, marking the completion of a seven-month restoration project.
The bedchamber's newly added features include blue textiles and wallpaper, cream-colored woodwork, and an original 18th-century fireplace mantel. The new centerpiece of the room is a dramatic four-post bedstead in an indigo blue, printed cotton fabric - a painstaking recreation of a bed originally enjoyed by the Washingtons.
