2018 Woodlawn Needlework Show & Sale Information
Woodlawn Estate was the first family home of Eleanor “Nelly” Custis, the granddaughter of George and Martha Washington and one of America’s foremost needle workers. Our annual Needlework Show & Sale, now in its 55th year, honors her legacy as an American crafter by showcasing hundreds of amazing needlework creations from artists across the country and maintaining the long tradition of the needle arts today. Along with the Woodlawn mansion, our property hosts the iconic Pope-Leighey House, designed by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright. This year, we are highlighting his passion for Japanese design elements with an exhibit on traditional Japanese embroidery, specialty tours of Pope-Leighey House and its Japanese influences, and much, much more! There will be lots of needlework-related workshops for guests of all ages held throughout the month, a chance to work on finishing your own needlework masterpiece here alongside Nelly’s Needlers or to purchase one of the beautiful pieces displayed in the show, as well as delicious locally-sourced lunches and desserts available on site after you’ve checked out the show. So come join us for the perfect March outing to beat those Winter blues and see what the fuzz is all about!
