Small Business Saturday in Alexandria

Small Business Saturday was bigger than ever in the D.C. region’s Shop Small headquarters in 2017 where more than 50 independently owned boutiques in Old Town Alexandria and Del Ray offered special in-store activities. New this year, shoppers were treated to free parking at parking meters, a Santa Stroll on King Street starting at 11 a.m. outside of Penny Post, a postcard pop-up from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. from new paper goods boutique Penny Post, plus live music, shopping and activities at the Torpedo Factory Art Center from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., including a free gift wrapping station from Safe Space NOVA and NOVA Pride from noon until 8 p.m. Shoppers were treated to surprise giveaways from the Elf Prize Patrol from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. and holiday caroling from The Alexandria Singers from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Small Business Saturday was part of a weekend of “Shop Small” festivities in Alexandria that included an alternative Black Friday experience and the first-ever Museum Store Sunday. Alexandria’s Small Business Saturday was a partnership of Visit Alexandria, the City of Alexandria, the Alexandria Small Business Development Center, the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, the Old Town Boutique District and the Del Ray Business Association.
