OPENING IN LATE SUMMER 2019
Have children? Join us for the Family Pirate Cruise on Saturday mornings! Our crew will entertain your little buccaneers with songs, games, and a little cutlass training, too. This could come in handy if a mutiny occurs and the children have to save Captain John! Kids will walk away with a big smile and a small pile of treasure.
The tall ship Providence provides a living link to our rich maritime, naval, and Revolutionary history. Our Providence is a replica of the first ship authorized to serve in the Continental Navy and John Paul Jones' first command.
Providence arrived in Alexandria on July 1, 2019, and will open to the public in late summer. Once open, we will welcome visitors aboard to see the ship, meet John Paul Jones, and get a taste of what life was like aboard an eighteenth-century sloop. In 2020 our Visitor Center will open near the base of King Street, where we will provide a dynamic and interactive experience. Our visitors will be pulled into the dilemmas that confronted our citizens and sailors, board the ship to meet John Paul Jones or another historic character and then learn about the birth of the U.S. Navy in a multimedia presentation!
