The extensive menu at Hawwi Ethiopian Restaurant features authentic meat, vegetarian and vegan dishes that are carefully seasoned and prepared for optimal enjoyment. We pride ourselves on serving healthy food from local farmers. Ethiopian cuisine is based on an exotic blend of spices, both robust and subtle.
Part of each entree is a traditional sourdough-risen flatbread called injera. Injera is made from a gluten-free whole grain called Teff, which is both mineral rich and high in protein. This unique, slightly spongy and porous texture makes injera the ideal vehicle for scooping up sauces and soaking up the juices and flavors of the food. To enjoy the entree, break off a small piece of injera and pinch your fingers together to pick up the desired amount of food. When the entire “tablecloth” of injera is gone, the meal is over.
