The tall ship Providence provides a living link to our rich maritime, naval, and Revolutionary history. Our Providence is a replica of the first ship authorized to serve in the Continental Navy and John Paul Jones' first American command.
We are open for historical tours year-round, with cruises and charters being offered April-October. Visitors to Providence get a chance to step back in time to see what life was like for sailors aboard this reproduction eighteenth-century sloop. In fair weather, we offer cruises on the Potomac, including family-oriented adventures and those offering adult beverages. You can even rent the ship for special tours or to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or corporate event. Tall Ship Providence also offers an array of educational programming to include virtual programs, scouting programs, and courses for homeschoolers. Come see what adventure awaits aboard Providence!
In 2021 we will open a new Visitor Center in front of Waterfront Park, near the base of King Street, where we will provide a dynamic and interactive experience. Our visitors will be pulled into the dilemmas that confronted our citizens and sailors, board the ship to meet John Paul Jones or another historic character and then learn about the birth of the U.S. Navy in a multimedia presentation!
