About IPW

Did you know that the U.S. Travel Association's annual IPW conference is the travel industry's premier international marketplace and the largest generator of travel to the U.S.? From June 3-7, 2017, Washington, D.C. will host IPW for the first time. The event will bring 1,500 international travel buyers, 4,500 suppliers, and 500 international & domestic media. Within three years, IPW is expected to bring $1 million additional new international visitors and $1.7 billion in additional spending to our region.

Visit Alexandria has been actively working with Destination DC and the Capital Region USA to ensure that delegates are aware of our proximity to DC and exposed to all Alexandria has to offer international visitors. Hotels: Showcase Your Property Pre and Post – Thank you to all of the hotels who hosted targeted qualified operators with known business for the Capital Region during their visit to Alexandria a few days prior to the show or directly after the event. With your help we were able to offer an incentive of special discounts at Alexandria’s leading hotels for their stay. This was promoted through email communications, personal solicitations as well as IPW online marketing opportunities. Participating hotels were showcased on our website and in various marketing communications.

Official Sight Seeing Tour –  This tour was offered on Sunday, June 4 to all attendees and showcased Alexandria’s history and culinary attributes. Thank you for helping us make this a success.

Official Prefam (May 31 – Jun 2) – Visit Alexandria worked with the Northern Virginia Visitors Consortium (NVVC) on a two and a half-day itinerary to showcase the region to 20-25 qualified operators. Alexandria hosted and afternoon, evening and overnight on Thursday June 1.Thank you to all of the partners who made this possible.  

Volunteers throughout the event – Volunteer opportunities were available through Destination DC for official events and were only open to Destination DC members. Visit Alexandria and NVVC reached out for volunteers at various locations in Virginia. Thank you to everyone who assisted with this!

Marketing Opportunities – – IPW Online Market Place was a complimentary tool for delegates that allowed buyers and suppliers to connect and follow one another, view, share and download brochures, rates, press releases and images in advance, during and after IPW. The Daily Summary email feature prompted buyers to view the latest material to prepare for their appointments and learn more about travel products offered in the United States and provided them both the tools and the assets, to sell and promote your destination, attraction or service well after the conclusion of each IPW event. Visit Alexandria also developed a content plan that was pushed out via email and posted on the Online Marketplace (TravTrade) and the Online Press Room.

Participation at the show -  Visit Alexandria exhibited with Capital Region USA in the Virginia Tourism Corporation’s (VTC) booth. Last year’s show brought over 175 operators and media to our booth.
U.S. Travel Association’s IPW is the travel industry's premier international marketplace and the largest generator of travel to the U.S. - it is NOT a typical trade show. In just three days of intensive pre-scheduled business appointments, more than 1,000 U.S. travel organizations from every region of the USA (representing all industry category components), and more than 1,300 international and domestic buyers from more than 70 countries conduct business negotiations that result in the generation of more than $4.7 billion in future Visit USA travel. At IPW, buyers and sellers are able to conduct business that would otherwise be generated only through an exhaustive number of around-the-world trips.
