Alexandria’s Commitment to Health & Safety

Alexandria is committed to reducing risk so visitors and locals alike can relax in our vibrant, historic city. From our ALX Promise program of above-and-beyond safety standards to face mask fashion tips, learn more about our health and safety efforts below.

Face coverings are required in Virginia at all indoor public places, except when eating, drinking or exercising. Additionally, a mask is required when 6 feet of physical distance cannot be maintained, even outdoors. Please bring a face covering with you whenever go out, as it is not always possible to maintain 6 feet of physical distancing along the city’s sidewalks, parks and paths.

Studies show that spending time unmasked indoors at businesses such as restaurants and gyms significantly increases your risk of contracting COVID-19, even when physical distancing is present. Getting food to-go, dining outside and taking part in virtual activities from home are much safer.
