Alexandria Celebrates Washington’s Birthday
Celebrate the 289th anniversary of George Washington’s birth in the first president's adopted hometown, home to the largest George Washington birthday celebration in the country. This year, experience new and adapted events and tours throughout February. While the city’s annual George Washington Birthday Parade has been cancelled for the health and safety of the community, you can join a variety of virtual and physically distanced events to celebrate one of Alexandria’s most legendary citizens.
Alongside new virtual happenings, many favorite annual events are still planned with a fresh twist. Extended to the entire month of February, the 13th Annual “Cherry Challenge” among local restaurants will inspire you to dine in or take out a variety of creative cherry-themed dishes and cocktails. The annual George Washington Birthnight Banquet and Ball, held at Gadsby’s Tavern since 1793, will be offered virtually with to-go meals, toasts to the General, a special minuet and a virtual ball. Outdoor “George Washington’s Alexandria” tours will be held every Sunday in February. Find these events and many more on our calendar below.
